The Institute of Clinical Medicine was founed at Lobachevsky University.
The new structural unit will become the basis for the development of medical education and science at UNN.
The Institute of Clinical Medicine (ICM) was founded at Lobachevsky University. The decision to approve the new structural unit was made at a meeting of the Academic Council of the UNN in October 2022. The new Institute will include: Higher School of Rehabilitation and Human Health, the University Clinic, the Department of Clinical Medicine, the Accreditation and Simulation Center, the laboratory of Tissue Bioengineering, the Department of Educational work and Marketing Research.
As the rector of Lobachevsky University Elena Zagainova emphasized, the creation of the Institute of Clinical Medicine in the structure of the UNN is a natural process of development: “When the direction is small, it grows and forms under the wing of a large unit. This is what happened with the formation of the medical direction at Lobachevsky University, which originated at the Institute of Biology and Biomedicine. Now it has become stronger, the number of medical students has increased significantly, therefore, to ensure the effective development of the medical direction at UNN, we are creating a separate structural unit. Biological and medical education are very different. Biologists are classical scientists, and physicians are practitioners with a serious clinical base. And the training of doctors requires a special organization of the educational process.”
Elena Zagainova also noted that the opening of the Institute of Clinical Medicine at the university is a new step towards the formation of its own clinical base, which is especially important in light of the creation of a modern multidisciplinary clinic of UNN within the Innovative Scientific and Technological Center "Quantum Valley". It is planned that the ICM will conduct research in close cooperation with clinics and scientific organizations in Nizhny Novgorod and Russia. A special role in the new Institute will be assigned to the Higher School of Rehabilitation and Human Health, formed from the Institute of Rehabilitation and Human Health of the UNN. The School will include the Department of Adaptive Physical Culture, the Department of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, the research laboratory of Postural Control, functional Mobility and rehabilitation Potential.
